I was born before the series first aired. I'm not sure if I saw TOS during it's original run (I was 3 when the final season ended), but I do recall seeing reruns throughout the 70s. I remember the cartoon series, I probably saw all of those when they originally aired, or at least most of them. Around the Nickelodeon 80s era was when they first released the cartoon series onto VHS. I have (I think) 2 or 3 of them. A few months back I got the DVD of the series, but have yet to watch the DVD version. Nimoy wouldn't do the animated series unless they included Takei, Doohan and Nichols, which was very generous.

For 'actual Science Fiction writers', the Animated Series boasted as many if not more than the Original Series, to include a story treatment from David Niven.

Take THAT, Next Gen.david_bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00218727673816200051noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3746914765297507278.post-79547125447057033772013-05-20T07:44:40.610-04:002013-05-20T07:44:40.610-04:00Checkov was a relatively late addition to the orig...Checkov was a relatively late addition to the original Star Trek, and maybe that's why they felt they could get away with not including him in the cartoon. I did appreciate the fact that they replaced him with Mr. Arex, a three-armed alien that would be way too expensive to have in any live-action Trek. BTW, Arex (and a number of incidental characters) was voiced by Jimmy Doohan.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3746914765297507278.post-31998205038312289842013-05-20T04:01:55.299-04:002013-05-20T04:01:55.299-04:00For me it's Star Wars over Trek. I think DS9 is one of the most underrated Sci Fi shows of all time and was probably movie worthy.

I also love JJ Abrams Star Trek. I saw Into Darkness today with my father and son and I really enjoyed it. My favorite part of the day was when my 8 year old son, who is a huge Star Wars fan, turned to me and said he loved the movie. But I still watch TNG on Netflix from time to time. And the 2009 movie was pretty awesome. Can't wait to see the latest one as soon as it starts dying down.Fujihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00749100861086458307noreply@blogger.com
