Happy New Years! Resolutions For 2013

Even though Batman isn't too happy, I would like to take this time to wish everyone a happy and safe New Years and a great 2013. 2012 was a great year, collecting-wise. I rediscovered a passion for toys, comics and other pop culture awesomeness I thought was lost. Now, 2013 comes (take that Mayans) and I have plans for my collection. Everyone has New Years resolutions so here are mine, collecting-wise.

-Collect More Vintage

One thing I discovered this year was a passion for vintage toys. Let me be specific here, vintage superhero toys. The newer stuff that has been coming out hasn't thrilled me as much as the vintage stuff.

I have always been a huge fan of Mego's World's Greatest Superhero line. I had some of the figures as a kid. A few years ago I was picking up the figures lose and now I want to finish the line as well as pick up a few of the accessories.

I also want to pick up more vintage Batman stuff for my Batman collection. As a kid, I loved Batman and always had a Batman figure or a Batmobile. With the Dark Knight movies and my rewatching the 1960's Batman show, my love of the character is at an all time high and I want to add more vintage Batman to my collection.

-Expand My Collection

As much as a Superhero fan as I am, specifically Batman and Spider-Man, there are other characters I would love to collect. Green Hornet, Luke Skywalker and James Bond are three that come to mind. I have seen some great pieces I would love to add to my collection. I would also love to add some vintage Superman, Hulk and Iron Man pieces too.

I would also love to pick up some vintage Star Wars toys like a Death Star Playset, X-Wing Fighter and some figures.

-Organize

One of the things I really want to do is to be able to display all the stuff I have managed to collect. I want to buy display cases from Ikea and put up some shelves. I have seen other collectors awesome collections and I would love to be able to do the same.

-Work On My Spider-Man and Batman Comics Collection
Over the past couple of years I started to collect Spider-Man and Batman comics. I would love to have an entire runs of Amazing Spider-Man, Batman and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man. Now, Some of these books are way too expensive and I will probably never complete the sets, but I will have fun trying to grab as many of these vintage comics as I can.

I would also love to add some vintage comics to my collection. I just love the artwork from the 1960's and 70's. I could just read those stories for hours on end.

I hope everyone has a fantastic New Year. Please, don't drink and drive. Be safe and I will see you all in 2013.

So, I Just Read Amazing Spider-Man #700 (Spoilers)

Today, I strolled into Midtown Comics and purchased Amazing Spider-Man #700. I was anxious to read this issue, not because the current storyline was any good. Frankly, I think it's been piss poor. Doc Ock managing to switch from his dying, decrepit body and into Peter Parker's which cause Parker to have to figure out how to switch back before his organs fail and he goes kaput. Not exactly a killer read. But, as the faithful Spider-Man fanatic that I am, I read it and held out hope that there was some big payoff that would make reading this tripe worth my time.

Epic Fail.

Not only does Dan Slott manage to keep Peter Parker from getting back into his body thus dies at the end of the issue in Doctor octopus' body, but during the fight Ock has a change of heart thanks to visions of Peter Parker's life flashing before his eyes and become his own and is now taking the mantle of Spider-Man. The Superior Spider-Man.

What??

Do you mean to tell me that this retched person is now going to be Spider-Man thanks to a few memories? Have we not forgotten what a bastard he has been the past 50 years? The big ending I was expecting turned out to be a wet fart. Thanks Mr. Slott. You have farted on Spider-Man. Why? Because you want to make Spider-Man more like Batman? Um, hello. Batman and Spider-Man are 2 different characters. Why would Marvel allow Slott to do this? Haven't they learned with past attempts to take the mask off Parker? In the end, he has always returned to take his rightful place as Spidey.

I wonder what Peter Parker did to deserve not just dying in Ultimate Spider-Man, but in Amazing as well. Did he make fun of Mickey Mouse and that vengeful rodent order the hit? What must Stan Lee be thinking about this? All Parker has done was be the best superhero in the Marvel Universe. Now, he is dumped for a super villain all because Slott probably ran out of one liners to feed Parker.

This sucks more than Showgirls.

Well, no more I say.

As of now, I am done with Spider-Man. I was planning on picking up the first issue of Superior Spider-Man, but I refuse to support it. Not until Peter Parker is returned as Spider-Man (Come on, you know it's going to happen at some point). I will read the older stories and watch the movies for my Spider-Man fix, but I will not buy any of the Spider-Man titles going forward. As a matter of fact, most of Marvel's books haven't been that great. Avengers vs X-Men wasn't that great. The Spider-Men could have been better. Fantastic Four hasn't been good in a long time. Uncanny Avengers so far has not been a good read and I dropped that title as well. I might as well just stop buying new Marvel titles and stick to DC Comics.

Wow, Marvel has had a banner year in the comics front, haven't they? They turn Cyclops into a mass murderer, kill both Professor X and Peter Parker. What's next? Make Wolverine into a secret agent? Have Captain America turn on his country a la Sgt. Slaughter? Sometimes, I think Marvel has lost its focus. Maybe this Marvel Now thing is their way of getting it together. So far, it's not working.

A lot of people I know hated the reboot DC gave it's universe last year, but the Batman, Justice League and Green Lantern books have been good (In the case of Batman very good). I am also willing to give Superman, Aquaman and Green Arrow a try. I think DC has churned out some of the better comics the past year and I will continue to support them by buying their books. If Man Of Steel is any good, they might even be able to make a dent in Marvel Studios armor.

Don't worry Marvel. I'm not totally giving up on you crazy bastards. I still have older graphic novels to read Like Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. Plus, I do love the movies you put out. I just don't feel that you guys respected us Spider-Man fans with that craptastic storyline and I for one refuse to put up with it anymore. I have been a loyal Marvel fan since I was a kid, but until Peter Parker is back as Spider-Man , I will not buy the comics or any of the toys that come out from here on end. All my eggs will go into Batman's cowl. If it sounds like I'm whining, perhaps I am. Maybe you should have thought about it before you made this horrible mistake.

Besides I know I am not the only one who feels this way. I can honestly see Marvel taking a hit on this. Titles can lose readers, toys are left on the shelves, t-shirts and other merchandise left unbought. Profits shrinking. Joe Quesada being turned away at Space Mountain. Oh the humanity!

I am just praying that this is all just a part of a long, drawn out story line that will eventually have Peter Parker return. I am hoping that this "Superior" Spider-Man is not what we will have going forward. Only Dan Slott and the Marvel higher-ups know that for sure. I'm hoping that eventually, they do the right thing.

League Of Extraordinary Bloggers-Wish List

So, this week, the League wants us to put together a wish list for Santa. Maybe, Santa will see this list and one or more of the items will make it's way under my geeky christmas tree. Would be pretty sweet for Santa to visit the House Of Swag and bring by some geeky goodness for ole Sexy Geek himself. After all, I have been a good Sexy Geek.

One of the things I have decided for 2013 is I wanted to collect more vintage items and less modern stuff, no matter how cool it is. I have been able to add some vintage pieces to my collection, but there are some more goodies I need. With this list, I also kept with what I collect. So Santa, I hope you have a pen and paper. Here is the list

1-1966 Batman Lunch Box

I am a huge lunch box fan. As a kid, I would look at other kids lunch boxes and always wish I wasn't brown bagging it to school. Here is a lunch box I would love to add to my Batman collection. Very cool graphics. I would love to put this on my Batman shelf when I put one up.

2-Mego Spidercar

This car really makes no sense. Even as a kid, I knew. Aside from that dune buggy he had for a bit in the 70's, Spidey's only mode of transportation was his webline and his ability climb walls. So, I gotta ask, What was Mego thinking with this toy. And an even bigger and more important question is where can I get one?

3-Monkees Hand Puppet

I am a huge fan of the Monkees. I was at their most recent show at NYC's Beacon Theater and loved it so I am kinda on a Monkees kick right now. I've been watching my Season 1 DVD set and listening to thier music. The one thing I haven't done is add to my very small Monkees collection. I would love this puppet. Mattell put this out in 1967 or 68, I think. It has a pull string where it would "talk" if the string was pulled. These days, most of the sound boxes are dead, but this puppet would look great displayed in a Monkees collection.

4-Star Wars X-Wing Fighter

This past year I have been adding to a Luke Skywalker collection that pretty much started this year. With so many thinks associated with Luke, I decieded on the one piece Luke does need. I have been wanting an X-Wing ever since I saw the commercial as a kid. Now, I am going to have to request that Skywalker flys and lands his ship on my Skyewalker collection

5-The Beatles Flip Your Wing Game

There are a lot of Beatles merchandise I would love to be able to pick up. From mini cake toppers to Soaky Bottles, All of which I would kill to have. But the Beatles Flip You Wig game is probably one of the most recognizable. I have looked for one, but a competed game is usually in upwards of 500.00. I will continue to bide my time until I can find on affordable.

6- Mego Kiss Figures

Now, I have to admit that I love KISS. I love the theatrics, the make up, the music. I go back to 1976 when I first discovered the band. My buddie had this seies and as we grew up, I have been liking these figures more and more. Another high end collectable, completed sets are virtually impossinble to find. But I will not give up the serch.

7-Hot Toys Michael Keaton Batman.

Ok, I know I said vintage toys and this is also a high end figure, going upwards of 250.00. But I want it, I want it, I want it.

So, Santa. Please note that most of the items I mentioned are pretty much out of your leauge and expensive. Also please note that I do not care and will think nothing of throwing myself to the ground, crying and making a specticle in public no less until I have all these items.

Also remember that this is not a full list. Please drop by for your playbook on what I want for christmas and don't fail me. I am holding Blitzzen hostage.

Newtown Is In My Heart

This blog is not about any new toy I got today. It's not about a comic book I read. It's not even about a new pop culture rumor I heard. We all know that there are more important things in life than material items and today we were reminded of it in the worst way possible.

I wish I could say something that would cheer us all up. I wish I could explain what happened today. But I can't. All I can do is sit here and have mixed emotions about what took place today. On one hand, I felt terrible and shed a few tears for the victims, both children and adult, who lost their lives while on the other hand, I felt angry at what happened and anger at the coward who did this and then took his own life so that he didn't have to live with himself or be punished for his actions.

I'm not a parent. I probably wouldn't even know how to be one if I had the chance. I know it's easy for me to sit here and talk about gun control or how this world has gone down with all the violence in the world today. This isn't the world our parents grew up in or even us as children. I could talk about how we need to adapt to what's going on. We suffered through enough tragedy lately with Hurricane Sandy, gas shortages and the shooting in the mall in Oregon. Here in NY, it seems like I can't walk down the street without hearing about how someone was shot over a stupid jacket. I just wish for a period of time we could not have to suffer through anything. I wish we could all live in peace and harmony. If it sounds like I should be hugging a tree or something well maybe I should be. After going through what we have all gone through, maybe some good old fashioned hippy love is what the world needs these days.

But, I'm not going to talk about any of that. I'm just going to sit here for a few minutes, collect my thoughts and say a prayer for those we lost today. Maybe tomorrow I will feel like blogging about pop culture. But tonight, I just want to pray.

Batman Power Attack:Twin Blades Batman

I picked up my 2nd Batman figure from the Power Attack line. I had bought the black and grey suit Batman and wanted to pick up the blue and grey suit version for a while. I had it in my hands a few times and always put it down. I finally picked it up last Saturday. At $8.99 for a 6 inch figure, which is pretty cheap by today's standards, I couldn't put it back this time.

Back of the card shows a drawing of Batman facing off against Two Face.

Bottom of the card shows the rest of the figures available in this wave. Not sure if I'm getting any of the others. I do like the Robin in this set and also had it in my grubby mitts, but always put it down. I might grab it eventually. I am done with Batman though. I have never been a fan of the other outfits the toy companies put him in. I just want the outfits he wears in the comics or movies.

I like how this figure looks. Old school blue and grey outfit for Bats. The way he looked when I read the comics or watched the cartoons as a kid. You won't find a lot of articulation with this figure, but I really don't care about articulation. I want a great looking toy to put on the shelf. I am not going to play with it or put it in any pose. He will go on the shelf as is.

Back of the figure. I love how the blue just pops out. Great colors on this figure.

The figure comes with these 2 blades, one for each hand. That would be why this figure is called Twin Blades Batman. Not sure why he needs them. They don't look like the Schick razor twin blades, so he's not shaving with them. I'm undecided if I will display the figure with them or not.

And here's a shot with the 2 figures I bought from this line. They look pretty sweet side by side.

I like this line of Batman figures. They are obviously geared toward children, but they still are pretty cool figures if you take away the accessories that come with them. I gt the 2 Batman figures from this line I wanted. Might grab Robin and Joker as well. I think a Batmobile was made for this line as well, so I will look into that.

So if your buying these for a child or for your own collection, I would recommend them. The price for them is good and they are well made. They would make a great addition to any Batman collection.

New Comics Pick Ups

New Comic Book Day arrived and I went to Midtown Comics to pick up some new reading material. There wasn't anything I really wanted to pick up with the expection of these three books. I grabbed the books without looking around so I wouldn't be tempted by anything else and got out of dodge with my new weekend reading.

I picked up The Amazing Spider-Man #699. The series is ending at issue 700 and I am not liking it one bit. I don't see the need to make any changes to Spider-Man, yet Marvel wants to make drastic changes to the character when Superior Spider-Man comes out in January. Rumor has it that it won't even be Peter Parker under the mask. I wasn't too crazy about what happened last issue. It was pretty lame and if that's the way the series is going to go out, it will be met with a collective yawn.

I also grabbed Avenging Spider-Man #15. To be honest. I have been picking these up and have not read any of the issues. I pick them up because Spider-Man is my favorite hero aside from Batman and I know I will be reading them soon. I probably will do so this weekend. I wonder if this title will be cancelled after Amazing Spider-Man #700.

I also left with Avengers #1. I am currently reading Uncanny Avengers and am really not that impressed with it and will probably be dropping that title soon. I'm hoping this Avengers book will be better. Upon first glance, it looks like they are going with the movie line-up of Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow, but I could be wrong as I haven't read the book yet Only glanced through it. I'm guessing they are going with the line-up the general public knows to sell this title. Hope it's good.

Hopefully you all got out and picked up some new books today or are planning on it for the weekend. Excelsior!

A Really Cool Prize Arrived From The Batcave Toy Room

A couple weeks ago John, who writes one of my favorite blogs, The Batcave Toy Room, held a contest. To be entered, you had to guess which was the last Retro Action DC Super Hero he picked up for his collection. I had remembered he metioned he was having trouble finding Green Lantern. I saw he had Lantern in the picture he showed on his blog, so I made a guess, which turned out to be right. Later, I got a direct message from John on Facebook informing me I was the winner of his contest. Yey! What did I win?

I got the package in today. Let's see what I got from John.

I won a Mego Batman emblem t shirt. This is awesome! I am a huge fan of Mego and collect the World's Greatest Superhero line so this t-shirt is a great addition to my wardrobe and cannot wait to wear it to my next toy show. Maybe it will bring me good luck as I find a great deal on a new addition to my Mego collection.

If you have not had the chance to read John's blog, check it out here http://www.batcavetoyroom.com/.

If you are a fan of Batman, Star Wars and Mego like I am, you will enjoy this blog. Tell him the Sexy Geek sent you.

Package from The Cool And Collected Universe

Before the Thanksgiving holiday, I made a deal with my buddy Brian over at coolandcollected.com. I love making deals with Brian as I always get some cool stuff from him and he is really easy to work with and the packages always come quick. After initally almost pulling the trigger on a vintage Millenium Falcon and a Star Wars lot, I saw he was selling a DC lot as well as a small Joker lot, so I quickly made a deal with him.

As I mentioned before, he does get the packages out quickly. No more than a few days after paying, I got this package at my postal box

Inside was a veritable stash of DC toys and other goodies. It was stuffed to the top, which I always like to see. It would be impossible to show off all the goods, so I will show off my favorites in groups.

The Bat Lot. The main reaison I picked up the DC Lot was to add to my Batman collection and I think I have with some of these figures. I got some Batman The Animated Series figures, The Dark Knight and some The Batman toys as well as a cowl. I want to see if I can get some stands for these figures so when I am able to display them they wont fall over.

A couple of cool Batman Pez Dispensers.

Batmobiles and a Batcycle to add to my fleet of Bat Vehicles.

Batman was not the only one I was going for when I snagged this lot. I don't have a Superman collection and I want to rectify that. This lot will get me on my way.

Some members of the Justice League to add to the swag.

And to end things, a lot of my favorite Bat Villian. There are some real cool Joker figures in this lot, but I really like the figure of him on the cards. That will look pretty sweet on a shelf in my future man cave.

Again, I want to thank Brian for the sale. If you have not read his Cool and Collected blog, I urge you to do so. He is a great pop culture blogger and an even better friend.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
