POP Vinyl 1966 Batmobile NYCC Exclusive

In my last post I had mentioned I wasn't planning on attending this years New York Comic Con, but thanks to a buddy I managed to go for a couple of hours. But since I thought I wasn't going, I friend who was going asked if I wanted anything from the Con. Like a good friend, I greedily accepted his offer to bring back some swag for me.

There was a couple of things I wanted, but there was only one item I really wanted to add to my collection and thanks to my buddy, I have it.

The Funko POP Vinyl 1966 Batmobile NYCC Exclusive. This Batmobile was painted to look like those vintage 1970's Japanese tin Batmobiles. I always wanted one of those, but I'm not paying upwards of $500.00 for one, so this POP is a welcome addition to my Batman/POP collection. Let's take a look at the rest of the box.

Let's take Batman and the Batmobile out for closer inspection and get smelling salts for those who fainted when I said I would take the POP out of the box.

Once out of the box, I have to say this figure and the Batmobile is awesome. Yes, it's not the classic black Batmobile that we all know and love, but I love that the designers of this figure thought outside the box to create this blue Batmobile.

I actually did not realize that the figure came out of the Batmobile. I thought this was one piece. The fact that I get a figure and the car is a terrific bonus.

I absolutely love this figure. The paint job is fantastic. The colors are exact to the colors Batman wore on the TV series. The belt was sculpted to look exactly the same as the one Adam West wore on the TV series.

Here's the back of the figure where you can see some imperfections on the paint job. It's fine. I will be keeping this in the box anyway.

The Batmobile looks fantastic. The iconic Bat symbol is on the side of the car as well as on the wheels. The red racing stripe is still there as well. The red really pops out with the blue background.

One weird thing. When I took out the Batmobile from it's box, it was pretty dusty. I have never seen that before.

The back shows off the exhaust pipes, the flame launcher and the back lights. It's missing the parachute though.

In the car, we just have the steering wheel. Makes it easier to just go I guess.

With each release, I am becoming more of a POP Vinyl fan and I absolutely love this NYCC exclusive. I will be keeping this in it's box as I will grab the regular release Batmobile POP when I see it and have that out on the shelf.

If you are planning on picking this up, I would wait a bit. I saw this on eBay and the asking price was $300.00. Give it a month or so. The prices should go down.

What I wouldn't give to have a Bat Cave playset to go along with the Batmobile. Anyone have the number to Funko's developmental department?

Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na Bobble-Heads!

I love bobble-heads. Other than action figures, bobble-heads are among my favorite figurines to collect. I usually collect sports bobbles. I have about 25 Yankees bobble-heads, maybe 7 Jets a few Devils and 2 Knicks. I do have a few non sports bobbles as I can say I have a Captain America, Hulk, a couple of Iron Men and the Monkees bobble-heads in my collection.

When the announcement came that we would be getting 1966 Batman goodies, I never thought that bobble-heads would be among the stuff that is being made available. Then I saw the mock ups for some of the bobbles and I got really excited. When I saw the pictures, I knew I would be adding these to my Batman collection.

Wacky Wobblers released a set of bobble-heads featuring Batman, Robin, Joker and Catwoman, who is not pictured. I love the look of these bobble-head figures. Not too silly looking as some bobble-heads tend to be. I had heard these were already out in stores, but I haven't had any luck in finding them.

As you can see, there is also a contaminated cowl Batman from a Mad Hatter episode. This one is a hard one to find. If you do find one for retail, go play Powerball.

I have stated my unmitigated affections for POP Vinyl figures on many an occasion. When I heard POP was releasing a set, I knew I would be getting them. I just never imagined how cool these would look. This figure looks fantastic and I cannot wait to get my hands on them. They won't be released until October so I will have to wait a while.

Of course, I will be picking up the Batman/Batmobile combo as well. Not sure if this is the final product or just a prototype. I guess we will find out come October.

Big thanks to AFI for releasing pictures of this double bobble-head of Batman and Robin, climbing up the side of a building. This bobble-head set can be displayed on a shelf, flat like above or can be hung up on a wall, which would look pretty cool. This will also be released in October so for now I will just have drool all over my keyboard until it's release.

Would you guys believe I do not have a Batman bobble-head in my collection? Even I find that amazing and sad. I need to rectify that ASAP. I have seen some pretty sweet Batman bobble-heads, like the one from the Dark Knight and the blue suit DC Direct Batman. Those 2, along with the ones shown above pretty much guarantee a bad ass Batman bobble-head collection.

More 1966 Batman Toy News And Pictures

With this weekend's exciting news that our stores and collections will be flooded with 1966 Batman toys from Mattel, even more pictures have been released and it seems that Mattel won't be the only company releasing 1966 Batman related goodies. Plus, more pictures have been released of the Mattel toys from 2013 Toy Fair, which was held here in NYC. Every year I wish I could be lucky enough to attend. I guess I'm lucky I wasn't in attendance. I would have been arrested for trying to walk off with everything. 

I stress that these are not photo's I have taken. I have found these photos online (Google rules). If any of them are yours, I would be more than happy to give you the credit you deserve for taking these awesome pictures.

First the Mattel toys

Here is the box that Batman and Robin will come in. I'm an opener, but with a box like this, it makes it hard for me to want to open. it. Love that it has them walking up the side of the building. Wonder if there will be an opening for you to stick a figure out of the window, like when a special, unannounced guest star would in the show. By the way, Robin is only available in this box set.

 

Speak of the devil. "Holy Diablo, Batman!"

This cracked me up when I saw it. Yes, I have to have this too. I'm wondering if this is part of a 2 pack with The Joker in bathing suit. 

In case you were wondering, The Joker figure will indeed have Cesar Romero's mustache under the make up like in the TV Series. 

Oh, The Batmobile I showed the other day is exclusive to Toys R Us.

I posted this on my Facebook page. Yes, I realize they are Ken and Barbie dressed as Batman and Catwoman, circa 1966, but I don't care. I want them! I have the Barbie Batgirl figure already, (yeah, I said it. I own a Barbie), so these will fit right in with her. 

Looks like NECA will be releasing mini Batman figures. Here is a pic of the Batmobile that will accompany it. Sweet!

I love Funko Pop figures. I have a couple in my collection. Unfortunately, none of them are of the Batman. While I had planned on changing that this year, it looks like I will be adding some more Pop Figures to the want list. Check out the 1966 Batman line. What I am really drooling over is the Batman/Batmobile Pop. Pretty sneaky Funko for sneaking these beauties on me. 

There will also be Ensemble model kits made available from Moebius Models. There will be 6 models on Batcave rocks. When all are assembled will form the Bat Symbol. 

I will probably pass up on these for 2 reasons. I am not very good at assembling model kits and I want to pick up the other stuff more. Especially these other NECA 

An 18" Batman figure. From what I read, this will have interchangeable hands and, most importantly, will be UNDER 100.00. Yeah, I will be buying this one. Sorry Hot Toys. I believe there is a toy site that already has this for pre-order. 

Here's a close up of the face. Pretty good likeness on it. I haven't seen the Hot Toys Adam West yet, but I'm more than OK with this figure for my Bat-collection. 

NECA will also be releasing a Michael Keaton 1989 Batman as well. Not sure if this one will be under 100.00 as well. If it is, I will be grabbing it. I can't afford the Hot Toys version, so this will be a more than suitable option.

Guys, I've got to say, I haven't been this geeked out in a long time. I cannot wait until this stuff is released. I'm hoping it will be trickled out over the course of the year so that I won't put myself in the poor house trying to pick up all of this stuff...more so than I already am. I told John from the Batcave Toy Room on Facebook so much for concentrating on vintage alone this year. He told me that it took 47 years to get the licensing for this stuff. It is vintage!

God, I Miss These...

I have to admit, as of late I have been on a serious Batman kick. I read nothing but Batman comics, watch Batman movies, peep out Batman cartoons (The day I finally bought Filmation's The New Adventures Of Batman on DVD, I danced a jig right in Barnes N Noble) buy Batman goodies,and rock my Batman t-shirts. I have been bitten by the Bat-Bug, if you will (Dusty Rhodes in da hiz-ouse).

Lately, I have been wanting to change out my shelf and display some of my Batman toys and memorabilia. As I started to think about what I wanted to display, I started thinking about some of the stuff I had as a child of the late 70's, early 80's. My first thought was "God, I'm old". Then I thought of all the cool things I owned and lost or had tossed out by my mom. 

Here are some of the awesome things I had and will someday re-own. These are not my photos, so to the people who posted these on the internet, I thank you for the loan.

1-Remco Batman Helicopter

This thing was pretty tricky to use. You had to use a set of 2 levers to lift and lower the Bat-copter and pick up cardboard figures of The Joker, Riddler and Penguin. If memory serves me correctly, that was pretty much it. Not even sure I ever mastered the maneuvering of the Bat-copter. 

Avon Batman Hairbrush

I remember getting this brush from my aunt one Christmas and using it to brush my mane everyday. I had long, hippy hair as a child and this brush came in handy, except for brushing out tangles. The bristles in this brush were soft, but still hurt when you had a determined mother trying to get that last and most difficult knot out. I believe this brush met an untimely end when it dropped off the dresser. I remember dropping to my knees like Wilhem Dafoe did in Platoon.

Duncan Yo-Yo

One side Caped Crusader, other side Dynamic Duo. I won this Yo-Yo at a Yo-Yo demonstration at the Riverdale Public Library. I don't remember what the contest was, but I do remember that I was handed a Yo-Yo of the Incredible Hulk and the other kid I was paired up with was given the Batman Yo-Yo. Now, I was (and still am) a huge fan of the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk T.V. Series, but The Hulk was no Batman, dammit! Plus, the kid who got the Batman Yo-Yo was wearing a Hulk t-shirt, so you would have thought that the lady would have given the kid the Hulk and me Batman. The kid came up to me and asked if I wanted to trade. Um, did Burt Ward have a Holy something for everything? I accepted the trade and played with that thing until some dimwitt stole it off my desk at school. Sigh, I miss Walking The Dog with that thing.

Duncan Batmobile

I remember laying with this car on the floor of my room for hours, running over my other toys with it. All while singing The Batman Theme from the 1966 TV Series in a loud, obnoxious kiddie voice. I'm sure it annoyed my mom and sister to no end. Is it any wonder this turned up among the missing not too long after I got it? It turned me into Encyclopedia Brown, trying to learn it's location. I interrogated my mom and sister. They weren't talking. My mom claimed I left it at the park, but I know better. when Jimmy Hoffa is finally found and there is a Duncan Batmobile next to him, please return it to me.

Ben Cooper Batman Jiggly Figure

As weird as this thing is, I had an absolute blast with it. He fought crime, he bounced, he did the Bat-Tutsi. I think Ben Cooper came out with a few others. I have the Spider-Man one, but I would love to get this one back in my collection someday.

Mego Bat computer

Yeah, I know. I've talked about this thing ad nausea already. But I absolutely loved this thing, not I could actually make any communication with anyone on it. When my granddad gave it to me as a Christmas gift, little did he know that I would, again, drive my family crazy with it. It made a lot of sounds, picked up police and truck driver radio signals and oh those pretty, blinking lights. It was beautiful. I was the moth being led into the light. Plus, it's a Mego toy. This is one of my holy grails and I will have this again.

Sooner or later, I will come up on all these awesome toys from my childhood and I won't be able to resist adding them to my Batman collection. Once I re-added my vintage Spider-Man bank, it was on. I started a quest for my holy grails and I will not be stopped until my vintage Batman collection has all these goodies and more. Que the Indian Jones theme and hand me that Fedora and whip.

League Of Extraordinary Bloggers Assignment: Back To The Batcave

Pardon the interuption on the Beatle Blogs, but the League calls with an intresting assignment. This weeks assignment is:

Take a trip to anywhere in pop culturedom. What fictional town, time, or world would you want to visit?

This was too easy for me. Or was it. I could have visited Hill Valley and watched Marty McFly twart Biff Tannen or I could have gone to a California beach house and hung out with The Monkees or even visited a galaxy far, far away. But for me, where I wanted to go was pretty simple. It's a place I've wanted to visit ever since I was a kid.

I want to travel back to 1966 and visit the Batcave.

Ever since I was a kid, watching Batman on reruns, usually on Channel 5, although I believe it was on Channel 11 here in NYC later on. I remember watching with fascination as Batman and Robin would work on a riddler or look for clues on a particular object or punch some information into the Bat-Computer (I'm sure that they would have a Mac or at least the latest version of Windows on their PC).

I would behave myself. I would stay away from the Batmobiles nucular powers source. I wouldn't answer the Batphone saying, "Mr. Wayne's residence". Nor will I take a joy ride in the Batmobile, although I cannot promise I wouldn't sleep in it at least once. One thing I will do, above all objections is slide down the Bat-Poles. I have to see how one minute they are Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson and the next Batman and Robin. I mean, that bugged me as a kid. I need to know, dammit!

I'm sure I will be more pesty than Bat-Mite in the 1977 New Adventures Of Batman show. I'd ask such dumb questions as how did you get being out at sea as C for Catwoman? Maybe break a test tube or two. Eat too many of Aunt Harriet's delicous cookies. I'm sure the last straw will be hen I put on the Batman suit, look through the utility belt, find something intresting and ultimately knocking myself out with Bat-Gas. Then waking up on a beach somewhere, not knowing how I got there. Wow, I just got kicked out the Batcave. I'm on par with Penguin, King Tut and others who has broken into Batman's sanctuary. I'd say I was like Molly, but I didn't take a header into the Batmobile's nucluer power source.

As Batman once said, "What a way to Go-Go.

Batmobiles! Hey, Does Superman Have His License?

During this past summer, I stepped up in my quest to add more Batmobiles to my Batman collection. As long time readers know, the Batmobile is my very favorite pop culture vehicle. From the 1966 live action car to the movie incarnations, the Batmobile usually gets my heart racing and I'm not even a gear head. I just love the Batmobile.

With this summer's awesome Dark Knight Rises, there was a pleathora of Batmobiles released this summer. Hot Wheels continued its run by releasing different Batmobiles as well as the 1966 Batcopter from the live action movie and the Penguin Mobile from Batman Returns. Matchbox released some Batmobiles as well like the Batmobile from Batman: Arkham City video game. I haven't picked up any of the Matchbox Batmobiles, but here's what I did pick up.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the Tumbler from the recent Batman films, which is why I never went gaga over buying any Tumber related merchandise. Still, any Batmobile collection worth it's salt has to have at least one Tumbler in it's collection and here's mine. I might pick up a larger scale Tumbler if I find one cheap in a thrift store or flea market. I'm hoping the next series of Bat films has a better Batmobile.

Now, here is a beauty. One of my all time favorite Batmobiles, this one is from the 1940's. I love the look of this car from the big bat face on the front of the car to the big ass bat fin on the back of the car. Ths souped up sedan is one of the nicer Batmobiles they ever made, I think. The Batmobile from the 1950's is similar, with the exception of the search light on top of the car and the bubble dome windows. I hope Hot Wheels has that Batmobile in it's next line.

This one is not one I'm too familiar with, I'm afraid. I never really watched The Batman. I meant to, but I could never fnd when it was on and the one episode that I caught wasn't the greatest. I wasn't thrilled with what they did with The Joker and The Riddler, so I never really went looking to watch it again. Still, the Batmobile is pretty cool and I'm glad I was able to add this to my collection, thanks to my friend and her son.

This is one of those head scratchers. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad to have it in my teeny tiny Superman collection, but Superman doesnt need a ride, does he? I mean, is this car pimped out with hydrolics, loud speakers and fuzzy dice? Does Supes drive around in this on his off days around Metropolis wearing a Kangol, a huge gold chain and enough bling to make Liberace blush? Does he dance to Black Sheep like those gerbils do in that Kia commercial? Not sure about that one. I mean, I got the car he used in the Superfriends, the one with the hands to handle Kryptonite with. This one doesn't even have a second seat for Superman to kick it to Lois.

The one good thing about collecting these are they are very inexpensive. In most cases, they are under 3 bucks a pop and can be found just about anywhere. I was never really a car collector before, but once I got my hands on these I couldn't stop looking for more. Now, if someone can make that cool Spidey Buggy from the 70's, I would have it made.

If I Was Going To Blow $300.00 On A Toy

Honestly, I have never been a huge fan of spending crazy money on a single toy/statue/whatever. I would much rather take $300.00 and buy more than one thing. Then again, I'm the type of guy who can go into a convention with $300.00 and not spend any of it. I know, with all the things I have bought recently, it is hard to believe, but there are times when I see something I have wanted for a long, long time, I walk away from it and leave it behind as well as a stunned look on my buddy, George's face. George, understands that I'm not made of money, but sometimes he will have to talk me into treating myself once in a while.

Take the Hot Toys figures. I really dig them. Love how realistic they look and I have been dying to own the 1989 Michael Keaton Batman, The Jack Nicholson Joker, The Christan Bale Batman, Heath Ledger Joker, Iron Man, Spider man, Christopher Reeve Superman to name a few. I know once Hot Toys releases the 1966 Batmobile and, probably, a Adam West Batman, I will be beside myself in wanting to own one.

But seriously, I'm not a guy who can be confused with having deep pockets. I can't just drop $250.00 on a action figure. I have to save for it and, once I do save up, the moment has usually passed me by and I'll go off and do something else with that money.

But, if I was going to buy an expensive figure...

I would make this my first extravagant purchase:

I was looking on Cool Toy Review and saw a link for this awesome Luke Skywalker figure and clicked on it and squealed with delight. This thing is pretty detailed and looks a lot like Mark Hamill. Don't believe me?

Love how detailed this is. Right down to his glove, lightsaber and hand





What's real cool is the lightsaber lights up. I would love to see what one of these looks like in person before I would even think about jumping the gun and buying it.

I like the stuff Sideshow releases. I have seen their other Star Wars figures and have been tempted to pick up a few Luke Skywalker statues I've seen like the Farm Boy Luke, and Bespin outfit Luke. Man, if this thing was 89.99 and I had a place for it, I would definitely snatch it up. I'm sure a lot of you more experienced collectors know how to get something like this cheaper than retail, which is $289.99. There is a payment plan option of 3 payments of $96.66, which take the sting out of paying the whole thing at once. Still is a nice chunk of change regardless.

As cool as this figure is, I would probably have to pass on it unless it takes a nose dive to a more "Mikey" economic price. If I would pass on a Batman Mego, mint in minty box, then you can bet I would let this one go.

Still, the figure is pretty bad ass and would love to see one of these in person, which might be a bad thing because I might try to smuggle it faster than Han Solo smuggles cargo in the Millennium Falcon.
